So, where is the largest casino in the world? Venetian Macau is the world’s largest casino. It has nearly 550,000 square feet of gaming space, plus almost 10 million square feet for hotels, conventions, and entertainment. The resort features 6,000 slot machines and 800 table games.

Contrast that with Las Vegas. There are very few slots on the Las Vegas Strip (we can count to three). There are few tables in the casino (we can count to two). Most of the tables on the Las Vegas Strip are for high-rollers. And when we say “most” we mean most — meaning 100% of them.

But there’s one thing Vegas does better than Venetian Macau: it has a lot more slots than Venetian Macau, but fewer tables! That’s right; even though Las Vegas has over 1.5 times as much gambling space as Venetian Macau and twice as much gaming space as Paris or Monaco, it has significantly fewer tables than Venetian Macau!

So what happened? Why did it happen? If you guessed “credibility” you would be right! But why? We don’t know yet, but one possibility is that this was just a random miscalculation by someone at MGM who didn’t understand how open-tournament card games work. Another possibility is that they took a gamble on some concept they thought would catch on in Asia and it failed miserably. A third possibility is that they just didn’t want to pay for tables — especially since they already had an excess supply of them from an earlier expansion!

While these explanations might sound farfetched there are other reasons why table games may have gone out of favor in Vegas:

• There were fewer payments per play than slots

• Wagering on roulette could be just as fun (and perhaps more profitable) than playing slots

• The opening of a new casino inevitably led to new innovations in gambling technology (e.g., slot machines) which then allowed for more innovative forms of table games (e.g., blackjack) which attracted even more customers.

None of these reasons are reason enough to dismiss the idea that table games may have become marginalized in Vegas because they simply aren’t profitable anymore — not least because people love playing roulette and blackjack online instead! The world’s largest casino opened in 2019… and it was a big one at that. It had over 500,000 square feet of gaming space (smaller than most city casinos), which includes nearly 10 million square feet of hotels, conventions, and entertainment.

Macau is the sort of place where you can make a decent living — but only if you have a little luck. The economies in the Far East rely on casinos as a source of revenue: they pump money into the local economy through tourism and gambling. But there are limits to how much money gambling can pump into an economy — especially when it’s done in such a way as to keep out competitors. In Macau, there are four major casinos:

• The Venetian Macau with nearly 550,000 square feet for gaming

• A Macao International Convention and Exhibition Center with more than 8 million square feet for events

• A number of smaller hotels that cater to tourists and conventioneers

• And an empty lot behind them (in case they ever decide to build something there)

Some analysts say that Macau is still relatively small for Asia; others say it’s too small for Europe; many argue that it’s not even Asian enough; but it does have one thing going for it: It has very few direct competitors in its own market. That’s what gives this place its value: the fact that nobody else can do what they do better or cheaper than they do.

Macau is unique in Asia-Pacific because it’s both open market (it doesn’t discriminate against foreign products) and closed ecosystem (there are few direct competitors). With few direct competitors in its own marketplace, all other players have to deal with the restrictions placed on them by its government — which means they all have to pay taxes on their products just like any other company would be required to do everywhere else in the region… except here they get paid tax free! That means hotels / restaurants / conventions / etc., all pay zero taxes. And since no one else can compete with them from within the same closed ecosystem (except their own government), all those companies must pay their fair share for their participation – which is why so many start-ups fail before finding success.

Recently I was speaking with a colleague about a topic that was new to many of us at the time — the world’s largest casino. The resort features 6,000 slot machines and 800 table games. That is nearly 14 times as many table games as any other single casino . It also boasts nearly 50% more slot machines than any other single casino . It is also bigger than any other single casino or resort by far. And it has nearly 10 million square feet for hotels and conventions , which seems almost quaint compared to Las Vegas’ 25 million-square-foot mega-resort (which I described back in our book) or Atlantic City’s 45 million-square-foot “mega-resort”.
